In the human endometrium, stromal cells mediate the proliferative response of epithelial cells to the hormones estrogen and progesterone. These cells are immortalized human endometrial stromal cells and can be used in co-culture with epithelial cells to study stromal-epithelial interactions. Study of these interactions may advance our knowledge of the mechanistic, regulatory, and cell structural basis of stromal-epithelial interactions and hormonal responses in normal, and cancerous human endometrial tissue.
